DJ Dream Fund Scholarship Targets Brockton Community Schools Youth
October 17, 2011 marks the one year anniversary of the tragic death of Easton resident Danroy Henry, Jr., affectionately nicknamed, DJ. DJ, a Pace University freshman, had earlier on that day completed a spectacular football game as a cornerback for Pace, with friends and family cheering in the stands.
In an effort to keep DJ’s memory alive and in honor of his legacy of hard work, personal wellness and sportsmanship, the Henry family has created the DJ Dream Fund Scholarship, a scholarship program that aims to ensure that children and young adults in the area receive the financial support they need to improve their general wellness and/or participate in a sport of their choice.
Today, the Henry family presented a scholarship check to Brockton Community Schools Director, Kathleen Smith. “The goal of the DJ Dream Fund Scholarship, is to be a presence in the community, to help keep kids off the sidelines, and to keep DJ’s memory alive,“ said DJ’s mother, Angella Henry. “We want to do what we can to help the kids,“ added Dan Henry, DJ’s father. Ms. Smith said the goal of Brockton Community Schools is to never turn a child away, and this scholarship money will help to support that goal.
